In other words what I was getting out of smoking and then the cons to maintaining my smoking habit. Of course the pros far outweighed the cons. The financial and health costs of a smoking habit makes the decision to continue one you cant really explain in any sense except for the fact that as a smoker this is a habit that you love.
After I made my list I hung this list up on my bathroom mirror and also on my bedroom door. I wanted each day to see my motivation for changing my behavior this aided quite since quitting smoking is a decision one has to renew everyday. When ever you stop smoking you have to foresee there will be times when you will slip but in the times past that I backslid, I just accepted failure and started smoking full steam ahead. This time if I backslid and bought a pack of cigarettes or smoked one I begged from a friend I allowed myself forgiveness for not being perfect and started right back up.
When I saw the bathroom scales go up I made sure to exercise more and not to rearrange eating with smoking. I also rewarded myself by pampering myself with something I normally would not do for myself. When I pay attention to careful smoking control my cigarette use always goes down. I will not say that I don't think about smoking occasionally and certainly always will but I also remind myself that what you save is both health and money. Your clothes do not smell like smoke your hair does not reek of smoke and you can better enjoy the food you eat. You can also put the money you would have used for punching cigarettes into a saving account and watch it add up.
